Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Language: British English
  • Linguistic quality of the manuscript: Submissions must meet a high standard of academic English and be clear, precise, and publication-ready. The language should be at a level comparable to that of a proficient native speaker. Manuscripts that do not meet this standard may be returned for language revision before peer review.
  • File format: *.docx-Format
  • Formatting requirements:
    - Left-aligned text and simple line spacing
    - Uses a 11-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end
    - Top and bottom margins should be set at 2.5 cm and the left and right at 2 cm
  • Structure of the manuscript: Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgement (if necessary), References
  • Citation style in text and reference section: APA 7
  • Provision of DOI-URLs for the references (where available)
  • Length: 6.000 – 8.000 words (exceptions require justification)
  • Anonymization: Manuscripts must not contain any author-identifying information. The required information for making the manuscript “camera ready” (e. g. of the author(s) and the corresponding ORCID number(s)) will be requested by the Managing Editor after inclusion in the respective issue.
  • AI use in manuscripts: Author(s) must disclose any use of AI tools (type, purpose, and manuscript sections affected) within the methodological section and, where appropriate, in the acknowledgement section.
  • Ethical declarations: Include statements on conflict of interest, funding, and research ethics approval where applicable
  • Further publication: The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided)

Article Responsibility and Licensing Policy

  • The authors are fully responsible for the content of their articles;
  • Reproduction of articles, whether in full or in part, is permitted as long as proper credit is given to the original source;
  • Articles identified as containing plagiarism will be rejected outright. Additionally, authors found guilty of plagiarism will lose their right to submit future work to the journal of ESJ DHE;
  • The names and contact details provided to the journal will be used solely for the services directly related to this publication. This information will not be shared for other purposes or with third parties;
  • Upon submitting their articles, authors grant ESJ DHE a license to use, reproduce, publish, and share the article under the Creative Commons CC BY license agreement, as per Plan S. However, if an author wishes to withdraw their submission, they may request the journal not to publish the article. Such requests must be made at least two months before the scheduled release date of the issue in which the article is set to appear.
