Social Inequality of Academic Success

Abstract

Educational success is not equally distributed between all university students. While there are more possibilities to study nowadays, most students are still from more affluent backgrounds. This study wants to examine current students and their path through university. Academic performance is operationalized with the mean grade students reached so far. Adding data of a quantitative questionnaire linear regressions are estimated to determine the relevant factors for academic success. Effects can be found for the grade of the university entrance qualification, school form, dropout intention and growing up in a single-parent household.
